Description

Keep your mind sharp with word and logic puzzles from New York Times Games. Free to download, the app offers new puzzles daily for every skill level. App Features and Games: NEW: STRANDS Our latest game lets you find hidden words and uncover the day’s theme. It’s the word search you know, with a twist. WORDLE Play the original Wordle — created by Josh Wardle — in our app. Guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries or less, and analyze your guesses with WordleBot. SPELLING BEE Is scrambling your strong suit? Play the daily Spelling Bee and see how many words you can make with 7 letters. THE CROSSWORD Subscribers can play the same daily puzzle that’s printed in The New York Times, in our app. Crosswords increase in difficulty throughout the week. CONNECTIONS Group words with a common thread. See if you can do it with four mistakes or fewer. SUDOKU Looking for a numbers game, minus the math? Play Sudoku and fill each 3x3 set of boxes with numbers 1 to 9. Play a new puzzle every day in easy, medium or hard mode. THE MINI CROSSWORD The Mini is all the fun of The Crossword, but you can solve it in seconds. These word puzzles don’t increase in difficulty throughout the week and feature simpler clues. TILES Unwind while you match elements in the day’s pattern — the key is to make consecutive matches. LETTER BOXED Create words using letters around the square. Letter Boxed is another fun way to test your word-making skills. STATS Track your progress for The Crossword, Wordle and Spelling Bee. For The Crossword, monitor your average solve times, see how many puzzles you can solve in a row, and more. Plus follow your streak on Wordle, and track how often you reach each level in Spelling Bee. LEADERBOARDS Start a friendly competition with The Mini leaderboards. Add up to 25 friends to see who can solve today’s Mini puzzle the fastest. PUZZLE ARCHIVE Subscribers can now solve over 10,000 past puzzles from Wordle, Spelling Bee and The Crossword. • What??

I play about 5 games everyday. Prices are going up to $12 a month and then to $25 per month. Not for me!! I will miss these games, but not at $25 per month!!
  • No dark mode

For a relatively simple app, I’m pretty surprised they don’t support dark mode. The games are great, the UI for the crossword is generally pretty good, but no dark mode is a killer on the eyes especially playing often. I also don’t understand the decision to use a non-native keyboard, much more difficult to type with than the one Apple already perfected.

I haven’t missed a day of Spelling Bee since February 2023 and today by clicking on “Answers” (which used to be “Yesterday” - I like to check which words I missed the day before) it showed me the answers for today before I could play at all. If showing the current day’s answers is a new feature, why on earth put it where people are used to checking the previous day’s answers without making it obvious? I’m so annoyed about losing my year and a half streak because of muscle memory and bad UI. App is fine otherwise but feels less glitchy and easier to just play in the regular NYT app most of the time. Typing on the crossword is way harder on this app for some reason.

Super fantastic awesome stupendous app with one glaring omission… where is the Dark Mode?? The glaring bright white screen is problematic in so many instances! Please consider adding a dark mode… then this app would be perfect!👍
  • Constant bug and technical support doesn’t help

I’d like to be a daily player of these games, but I get a constant “opps, something went wrong error message.” So I uninstall and reinstall the app and that still doesn’t fix it. So I email their tech support and they just tell me to do what I already tried, which doesn’t work. Games are 5/5. The app and technical support are 0/5. Why would I continue to pay for this buggy app?
  • Letter Boxed deserves some love!

Love the recent updates to Connections, SB and Wordle. Hopefully it’s Letter Boxed next. It’s such a great puzzle! Some requests: Ability to load/play archived games!! This puzzle is so worth coming back to. It’s delightfully hard. Save words as you go! Maybe you find a good/long one but can’t connect it. Save it, clear the puzzle and try again. Then, refer to your list as you try to build word chains. Bonus: if you create a word that ends with the starting letter of one of your saved words that word could be highlighted in the saved list. Rotate sides for a fresh perspective. Save completed puzzles. Currently no way to know if you even did today’s puzzle let alone what/how you did. Nor is there any way to compare yesterday’s answer to what you did. Hopefully this would include a way save multiple versions of a given puzzle. Indeed, would be fun/elucidating to show multiple solutions to previous puzzles instead of the amazing two word version that makes most of us feel bad. 🤪 One nerdy cruciverbalist request: would love 🥰💕❤️the ability to search the archives by constructor. Even if that were a web-only feature with a link that opens in the app.
  • Why the forced tracking?

I’m deleting this app since I can’t play anymore unless I allow them to track my usage of other apps. This is WRONG! Not cool NYT. Adios
  • How much and for what..?

Look under the in-app purchases section. Similar to the iOS subscriptions descriptions. “Games monthly - 1 month $4.99” “Games monthly - 1 month $5.99” etc…. what’s the difference..? And so on…. Can’t we be a bit more clearer on all those descriptions and amounts..?

Switching the crosswords over to the next day way before the end of the current day is obnoxious. Let my sub run out - won’t resub. Update 9/10/24 - To be clear, I know how to get to the archive but having to go to the archive to get the puzzle for the day it currently is, is obnoxious. It seems to me as a ploy to get people to subscribe since you can’t access the archive unsubbed.
